Frankston - Hockey Club
Hi Stingers, Welcome to 2018. We have an exciting year ahead! There were a number of great results and activities in 2017 that place the club in a great position. The 2017 Year kicked off with successful Hook in 2 Hockey program which saw the club being a finalist in the "club of the year" for this category. We had, through the wonderful efforts of the junior leadership team and volunteers, the highest retention rate of all the metro clubs. This is something to be very proud of. We also built a successful Frankston Hockey Academy. The success of this program is reflected in how many kids are enjoying their Hockey. We have just kicked off the 2018 Academy with the first week seeing 24 kids enjoy the program with a number still to come. The U16 Pennant side won the flag. I have left this sentence short to let the importance of this sink in. We now have a U16 Shield side as a result and this is key milestone for us being able to provide a pathway for our junior players, it will extend them and allow them and the club to grow. We have also had a full side of junior girls coming through over the last couple of seasons. They are now in the U14 age group, and are an important part of our club as we continue to build our womens division. It is vital we get this right and I think we are the right track. They will augment the talented girls in the U16s, and the girls moving from the juniors to the womens teams this year. The year ended with Steve Willer, running a Talent Athletes program for the junior boys coming through to prepare them for the senior mens hockey ahead. In terms of senior hockey, we saw the Metro B side make the grand final. Well done, what a great result. So to the year ahead... We will continue with the pathways for players to progress through the grades. This will see us continue to develop our juniors through all grade in the senior womens and mens teams. This year we will be entering 2 senior womens teams to cater for our growth. While it was a tough year for the VL side, we will continue to build. There has been a lot of work undertaken and I am proud of the way they are tackling the challenges ahead. In closing, I wish to pass on congratulations to our Head Coach Steve Willer for coaching Australia to fourth position in the Indoor Hockey World Cup. What a wonderful result. We are lucky to have Steve at our club. I hope you enjoy your 2018 seasons and I look forward to seeing down at club. Go Stingers, Frank.
